Todrick Tabor-Ramsey had not been seen publicly since June 19, 2023, at the end of WGWF Brawl. She and her husband, Austin Ramsey, had competed in a match where they were to defend their tag team titles. The night had not gone as planned at all. Not only did they lose the titles that they had fought so hard to reclaim, but #Flowergate had ended in a humiliating beat down at the end of the match at the hands of their tormentors, The Young Lions and the newly formed team and now champions Mac Bane and Bam Miller. Fortunately for the Ramseys, Austin’s cousin, Edward Grado, and Cholo made the save so that the couple could live to fight another day.
They made their way backstage after it was all over; Austin had been knocked out, so he was unaware of what happened, so his cousin filled him in. Todrick silently gathered her things. She knew that Austin needed her right now, but she also knew that she was about to have to spend the next two weeks away from her husband and children, and it was hard for her, but it needed to be done. She knew that once the bell had sounded that she was in for a very different type of fight over in The Entity.
To have a chance at winning this match, she would have to enter a dark place and come out a changed woman before heading toward the ring. At Carnival of Chaos, she would face Enigma in a Glass House match. They would both enter as champions, but only one would leave with the newly merged championship. A match of this caliber was right up Enigma’s alley, and Toddy needed to shed the good-girl mentality quickly. There would be no friends once they were inside that ring, and it would be one of the most brutal fights until someone went through the glass that would be surrounding the ring.
She collected her belongings and quietly slipped out of the locker room. She had placed a handwritten note into Austin’s wallet before she left.
“Husband,
I love you so much, and while I know you won’t like this, I need to take my leave for two weeks until the Glass House match at Carnival of Chaos. I need to strip away all the layers that would hold me back during such a gruesome match if I want to walk out as champion. You are angry, hurt, and confused right now, and it pains me to leave you this way, my love, but I must do this. I have to do this right now. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be in a remote location, with no access to phones or the internet, but I will have a documentary crew meet me there to film this process.
If I stay with you and the children right now, I don’t know that I’ll be able to leave so that I can do what must be done so that I am mentally and physically prepared to meet Enigma on the battlefield. I have already made arrangements to ensure everyone is taken care of. I left you and Daniel strict schedules and instructions that if you both follow, you will be fine. Can you film Dominic and Diana’s six-month checkup for me, please? I hate that I will miss it, but one day they may watch this film we are going to shoot and know that Mommy had to do this, and when Enigma goes through that glass, it will have all been worth it.
Austin, never forget I love you with all my heart. I will miss you, Daniel, Dominic, and Diana immensely, and once this match is over, I will need all of you to bring me back from the pit of darkness that I must embrace. You have experience with this, so I know I will be in good hands.
I’m sealing this with a kiss. xoxo
Toddy”
Todrick wipes a tear from her eye as the locker room door shuts behind her. The documentary crew had caught the intimate moments of her writing the note and placing it for Austin to find, and they were with her now in her moment of sorrow. She bravely puts one foot in front of the other as she marches to the car that is waiting for her. She is whisked off into the dark night. When she arrives at the hangar at the airport, she is greeted by her longtime friend and sister, Akasha Monroe.
The two do not exchange words, as Toddy can’t possibly handle a goodbye right now. They embrace, and Toddy hands Akasha her cell phone. Toddy climbs into the small plane as her bags are loaded. The engine starts, and Toddy looks into the camera.
Todrick Tabor-Ramsey: “Hey, Rockstars! I am happy that you are embarking on this journey with me. This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do to prepare myself for a championship match or even a wrestling match period. I am going to be away from my family and friends for a little over two weeks when I know they need me the most. I cannot let them or myself down at Carnival of Chaos. I know what I have to do to walk in and walk out a champion. Wish me luck. Muah.”
DAY ONE
The plane flies for quite a while, and Todrick has no idea where she is when it finally starts to make the descent toward the ground. A sign seems to be mocking the situation by saying welcome to the remotest location ever. The plane comes to a stop, and Toddy deboards and collects her bags. No one is there to greet her, and there are no instructions on what to do next. She looks around and sees no one. She does, however, see stone stairs that seem to go up the side of a mountain. She grimaces as she realizes what she is about to be required to do.
She collects her belongings and begins to make her way up the endless set of stairs. “For once, I’m glad I packed only the essentials.” She says aloud. It seemed as if she was climbing these endless stairs for hours when she finally sees the finish line in sight. A look of relief floods her face but quickly disappears when she sees a path that leads through what looks like a jungle. She wished that she had rationed her water a little better as she was almost out. She begins walking toward the tree line, and she sees a muddy path in front of her. She now had two choices; she had to find a way to let none of her belongings touch the ground or drag them and risk her things potentially being ruined. She had just endured the second option and replaced everything, and she wasn’t about to do it again.
She mustered up the strength to pick her things up and carry them on this seemingly endless trail. “Oh my god, is that a clearing?” The joy could barely be contained as it escaped her lips. She picked up the pace, and as quickly as the joy had come, it disappeared just as quickly as she saw an endless dirt field with boulders that looked like a barren wasteland. “Oh, I get it, they are testing me both physically and mentally to see if I will quit. I guess this is how they weed out the weak ones of the pack that comes here to shed themselves of their weaknesses. Well, I can’t afford to quit, so the show must go on. Enigma isn’t going to quit until he puts me through a glass wall, so I am not going to quit so I can ensure that I can put him through a glass wall.”
Todrick’s pace is a bit slower, but she pushes on. The pattern continues until well into the night when she comes across a temple with lanterns lit, and she finally drops to her knees with exhaustion. She sees a small dark figure in the doorway staring at her. She swears she sees red eyes but thinks it could be her fatigue playing tricks on her mind. The figure approaches, and Toddy does not move fast enough to stand and is cracked across the back with a wooden staff that causes her to cry out. She slowly stands, and before she can say anything, she is cracked in the side of the head by the staff.
Her anger kicks in quickly, but she knows that she is too exhausted to do anything about it, so she just bows and prays that this is the proper greeting that she had now failed at twice. She hears a satisfied grunt, and the figure moves in front of her, expecting her to follow. She is led to a tiny room that is stripped completely bare except for a small cot off to the side of the room. “Damn, no bed?” She turns to look at the figure but is met with the sound of her door being slammed shut. She looks around the room and sighs. After seeing this room, she realizes that she didn’t really need all of the stuff she brought outside of personal hygiene because she saw the robes she would be wearing for training. She cleans herself up and sits on the cot.
Todrick Tabor-Ramsey: “Day one is complete…I hope. It took everything in me to make it this far because I won’t lie, I wanted to quit so bad, but I’m here now. Hattie Mae Tabor did not raise a quitter, so I’m staying. Family is everything to me, and usually, I do everything for them, but this one is for me. I know that no one expects me to walk into Carnival of Chaos and come out as a winner, but I continuously prove that I will overcome all odds and obstacles to get what I want, and this is no exception. Enigma may fancy himself a monster, but I’ve slayed monsters all my life to get to where I am today. This is another monster that I have to fight and fight in his house, but there comes a day when every man or woman has to fall. July 5th, 2023, that day will come for Enigma. Good night my Rockstars!”
DAYS TWO – FOUR
These days, a regiment was established, you woke up, cleaned your room, put away your cot, and stood outside of your room for inspection. Every day, you were up before sunrise, and at sunrise, the inspection commenced. No words were ever spoken, and mistakes were met with hard beatings from the staff. You were then off to do your assigned chores. Todrick’s chores included collecting eggs and milk from the chickens and cows and then preparing food in the kitchen. You had five minutes to eat, and then you cleaned all the dishes. After that, you had to manually plow the fields, and that was backbreaking work. The muscles that Todrick knew were sore had no relief in sight. It was this way until dinner, which Todrick was expected to cook and serve. Then it was off for personal hygiene and to bed. Day after day, this was the pattern. Todrick was too tired to speak to the cameras that documented her every move, every grimace, and every look of determination to finish the day.
DAYS FIVE - EIGHT
There was something different about this day. After breakfast, Toddy was led to a dojo with weapons lined across the walls like wallpaper. The lights were turned off, and the room was pitch black. The cameras could film at night, so they could still capture everything. Whack! Toddy was hit in the head with flying nun chucks. She falls to her feet. She slowly stands back up but is accosted with more shots with weapons to the head and her body. Each time she gets up slower than the previous attack, but she continues to rise after each blow. When the day concluded for dinner, she was exhausted, but the lights were turned back on. No one helped her up, and dinner was certainly not going to be brought to her. She ate with the others, or she did not eat at all. The first two days, Toddy did not make it to dinner. By the time she arrived at the dining hall, service had stopped. She limped to her room, cleaned herself up, and went to sleep.
By day seven, Toddy had accepted that she could not rely on eyesight and started using her other senses, and began to manage to dodge most attacks. Sometimes there were double attacks, and she would miss one and be hit with another attack. Her body had built up a tolerance for pain and shots with weapons, something she would surely need when she faced Enigma, the man-beast would look into her eyes and question exactly what it would take to put her down. The answer was simple; there was nothing he could do.
DAYS NINE – ELEVEN
Toddy woke up not in her room but inside a glass house. Inside the house, there was a robot that mimicked the size of Enigma. There were weapons around the walls of the house. There was no door, a hole to use the restroom, and a medium-sized bucket of water in the house. Instantly Todrick knew that she was going to have to put this robot through one of the glass walls if she were to escape. The robot knew to evade her moves, and it was like it knew her fighting style because it always evaded her moves and counterattacked. When she was still, it was still. By day eleven, Toddy was weak with hunger and exhausted because she could not sleep there. She had it with this entire thing, and what she failed to realize was that in a match such as the glass house, by match end, she would be just as exhausted and in a do-or-die situation. She finally mustered up the strength and quit trying to outwrestle the robot and used the weapons at her disposal. Finally, she wore it down enough to where she could pick it up and send it flying through that glass wall with a powerbomb. She collapsed to the floor and remained there until it was time for bed. She crawled to her room exhausted and fell asleep.
DAYS TWELVE – FOURTEEN
The final days of her time on the island were here. She spared with multiple partners with weapons and got proficient in wielding them. She had learned all that she needed to learn here. She packed her bags and looked at the camera, and spoke for the first time since that first day.
Todrick Tabor-Ramsey: “I came to this island to change myself to win this match, but I don’t think I changed myself at all. I think that I reached down deep into what has always been there and brought it to the forefront of my wrestling career. I can take all the abuse that men like Enigma will throw at me and get back up with each blow. I know that will cause him to question what it will take to put me down. It will shake him to his core but that is not my issue. It is his. I can keep going when I have limited strength and resources until I achieve my ultimate goal and manage to cross the finish line when I have almost nothing left in the take. I’ve learned to rely on my sense to carry me through and adapt when a particular strategy is not working. I don’t need anyone other than me to get through this match and come out a winner. I am doing this for me and I am enough. I am the Empress of Tomorrow, and I will conquer the house of glass. I will show the world what it is like to face me at maximum capacity. I hope Enigma is prepared because I certainly am. Now it is time to face the beast in his house and claim what is mine.
