Getting attacked from behind is very humiliating when your gimmick is the ability to auspicate, plus before a match it's double the trouble because Ace's contract is so that he's paid by match, if he doesn't wrestle for any reason that is not the fault or responsibility of the company, like a cancellation of a show due to any " act of god", he does not get paid, which even though it's not the end of the world and he's been responsible enough, and wrestling for him has never been about money it is a real bummer, you perform an elite level you desire that reciprocated appreciation monetary wise. To make matters worse Ace's back, shoulders and back of his skull are very sensitive already, he tore his rotator cuff and had surgery on that in 2010, he's been very lucky not to have many concussions. Furthermore, it was the first show of the year, wrestling is all about building momentum.
Due to his edietic memory, an ability from his IQ of 190 he will never forget this, all he can do is move on, that's all he does usually.
There are times to look back at hindsight in some instances, most of the time it is healthiest mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually to " keep on keeping' on". Ace always aspiring to be equanimous, can take most mishaps in stride. The eidetic memory is pretty trippy in a way, for example on the upcoming date of his next match on February 20th, back in 1997 he had been training professionally for 1 month, starting on January 20th. He was in his junior year of college, and he was only 13 years old as well.
The positive always beat out the negativity, He would bike 52 minutes from the University of Houston after not only studying as a student, going to classes, he was an assistant professor as well in his astrophysics class, he would go to school from Monday to Wednesday, he would skateboard 51 minutes to Galveston to train with wrestlers not just twice or even thrice his size, but also older in age too, grown adults, body-slamming the crap out of 13 year old Ace. despite his small size, Ace could take a beating, he had 9 years of Taekwondo experience, 8 years amateur wrestling experience and had his farewell backyard wrestling match on 5 months prior which did for 3 years and 3 months, starting out on trampolines to building rings in his back and front yard and wrestling on local underground shows with teenagers, just a couple years older than him. He was enthusiastic about everything, including the stuff nobody liked doing such as setting up the ring, cleaning it after. He did all this for free.
The federation he was training at Galveston Championship Wrestling got a cable access TV deal that would start airing on his 14th birthday of March 16th, with the strict state athletic commission and their contract of wrestlers involved having to be licensed pro at 18 years old the youngest, 14 years old would still be too young, luckily Ace did not have to wait four years, on his 15th birthday he faced his closest friend in his training class Damian in front of the committee as Damian debuted as Locuro, a demented luchador who be Ace's rival to this day and they both got licensed pro , They would tape on Friday and Saturday and the show would air at three in the morning on Sundays, he had his pro debut match against Locuro on the second night of tapings on Saturday the 29th.
It was a mix of being promoted as sort of a prodigy but in a tongue-in cheek way the mocked him a bit on commentary as sometimes much younger than 15, plus dealing with an evil referee who was also a wrestler, he would feud with too which helped showcase how spirited side has always been despite his usual sanguine demeanor.
Ace has never been one to back down, being smaller in size of course gives anyone with that trait a reasonable chip on their shoulder, despite being a little behind socially due to his advanced aptitude intellectually,
he had that confident charisma as well that was never cocky, he wasn't timid at all. During his entrances he would come out excitable, slapping fans hands , do nifty hops and flips into the ring during his entrances, he took it in stride when fans would give him negative receptions due to his either his size or he looked too clean-cut and goody and goody but once he got into the ring, he showed it all, this dynamic style combining his athletic background in soccer, gymnastics, Taekwondo, amateur wrestling, an expansive catalogue of maneuvers and techniques curated by Damian from best of current and classic/historic Japanese, British and Mexican cruiserweight wrestling, niche and new-wave to their late 90's Texan audience. The style is quite ubiqitious in modern times, back then Japanese arm drags, and corkscrew leg-drops blew minds back then where as nowadays that in ring-recipe of crisp catch wrestling, Kung Fu movie style hand to hand combat, suicide dives and corkscrew splashes is so prevalent nowadays to the point of being yawn-inducing, modern audiences are desensitized drastically, which is very demoralizing to Ace in some respects.
It's quite frowned upon still to get the attention of the crowd that way from certain oldheads and their preferences, it always circles back to the debate from the internet based- insiders and analysts over preferring wrestlers to be from the Mr. Universe weightlifting spectacle and downplaying what Ace and many legendary wrestlers do as circus-acrobatic crap, when it's way more bang for the audiences' bucks.
All Ace knows is pro wrestling and outerspace became his special interests by the time he was three and he has spent close to 36 years out of 4 decades he's existed arguably obsessed in becoming an elite wrestler like his childhood heroes.
Is it a demented desire to sacrifice so much of yourself for the entertainment of the masses? Isn't this glorification of combat for spectacle? How does that align with the philosophical ideology Ace Sky proselytizes? Probably.
Ace will actually agree with that assessment, the way he describes it is you can't deny the nature of a being, Ace is in the ring for the same reason a fish is in the ocean, it's his natural habitat, his spiritual sanctuary. It's his dojo as well as his lair as the mad scientist of the squared circle. It's his canvas to paint with his blood, sweat and tears.
